Third grade is an exciting year of learning. This is also a year of increasing independence and great growth in faith and academics. Students study spelling, phonics and grammar while improving their reading fluency, making connections to text and deepening their comprehension. Writer’s workshop emphasizes the writing process and students learn to write in a variety of styles. In math, basic multiplication and division are mastered. Emphasis is also placed on geometry, data and measurement, and fractions. Students delve into Massachusetts history, government, and geography in social studies, and complete a research project incorporating technology, reading, and note-taking. In science, children participate in many hands-on investigations and observations, exploring multiple themes. A focus on prayer, an understanding of the Scriptures and Sacraments, and an important service project combine to make our religion curriculum relevant and meaningful. Third grade is an exciting year, full of interesting learning experiences!
